  • How long should you rest your eyes after over-wearing contacts?

I used to wear my contacts for 17 hours a day. It was the first time I got contacts so I don't know much about them. Now my eyes are kind of red. I tried to rest them for a week. I went to my eye doctor and he said my eyes are fine. But my eyes look horrible. There are lots of vessels which I never had before over-wearing them. Should I rest them for 1 month or more? What if my eyes don't get better even after 1 month of not wearing them?

Sweetie, I suggest you to give up wearing contacts until the redness disappear. From what you said, I guess there might be nothing wrong with your eyes because your doctor said that your eyes were fine. So the irritated eyes may caused by over-wearing contacts. The redness may disappear after you stop using contacts. So don't worry. Take a break and wear a pair of glasses from now on. Merry Charismas! Plus, you can buy a pair of glasses with less money on Christmas day if you don't have a pair of glasses at hand. Hope this helped!

Over-wearing contacts may lead to red and itchy eyes. Many people know that. Since you are a beginner, you don't pay much attention to this. That's why you are suffering from red eyes. Usually the doctor or optician will suggest us to wear contacts for less than 8 hours one day. As to beginners, they only need to wear them for 4-5 hours a day. After they get used to contacts, they can wear them for 8 hours but no more than 8 hours a day. Beside this, they also need to pay attention to eye hygiene when they put on and take off their contacts. They must wash their hands with soaps carefully. They also need to rinse contacts and contact case for fare of getting an eye infection caused by bacteria. They can't rub their eyes with contacts in because the contacts may bruise the eyes and cause red and irritated eyes. Besides this, they may also need to lubricate their eyes from time to time because wearing contacts for a long time may lead to dry eyes.

Usually a full day of not wearing them will make your eyes feel better. You may need to flush your eyes with some artificial tears from time to time. This can help lubricate your eyes and relieve your red eyes. Though there are some kinds of eye drops that can help remove redness, I won't suggest you to try that because they just contract the dilated blood vessels in your eyes other than kill the problem. And you may addict to them in the end. So don't try that. Just have enough rest and wearing a pair of glasses for instead. Good luck! Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
