  • Is chlorine bad for contacts?

People say that chlorine can be very bad for contacts. Is it true? Why does that happen?

  • #2
Chlorine is not only bad for your eyes, but also harmful to human beings. This is because that the chlorine is a kind of poisonous gas which possesses powerful oxidability and can strongly oxidize the surface of the eye contact lenses. Therefore, do not wear the eye contacts when you are near where there is plenty of chlorine. And when you go to swim in a swimming pool, you should not wear eye contacts, either. Because usually chlorine is used to added into the water in the swimming pool in order to sterilize the water there. If you still wear eye contacts in the above two conditions, your eyes will easily get infected and get conjunctivitis or keratitis.

Well, yes, chlorine in the contacts can be kind of dangerous. Anyway, you need to be more careful about it. Generally speaking, if you are wearing contacts in a pool, you are supposed to wear swim goggle over top. Or chlorine in the contacts can occur, and then it will certainly cause some problems, such as eye infection. At that moment, it can be very dangerous for your eyes, for it may lead to red eyes, itchy eyes, even burning eyes. And of course, for some cases, you can throw these contact lenses away afterwards to reduce the risk of infection.
