Hi, I'm 53, have eyes that dry out in only a couple of seconds and have been having trouble with blurry vision that is inconsistent and my optometrist can't seem to correct. I also have fibromyalgia. Any suggestions?

Fibromyalgia is a cyclic and a symptomatically progressive illness. If you often suffer from recurrent attacks which involve multiple body areas and systems, the situation is very bad. The partially-informed professional may fail to grasp the extent of your problem.

Your situation might be a little complicated. I suggest you to apply artificial tears to lubricate your eyes from time to time. As to your blurry vision, I guess you may have some vision problems. Many senior citizens often suffer from presbyopia. So I suggest you to have an eye exam immediately to diagnose what kind of vision problems you may have. You can buy a pair of reading glasses if you need them. While as to fibromyalgia, I suggest you to find a good doctor and check your body thoroughly. Maybe you can control this situation from going worse by applying some medical treatment. Good luck!

Generally speaking, tear production tends to diminish as we get older. To the people who are older than 50, their eyes can't produce enough tears. Dry eyes are common among them. Now you might be one of these people. You also said that you have fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia may need medical treatment. The medical condition may reduce your tear production too. So your situation is quite complicated. Maybe you need have your symptoms checked by a couple of professionals in particular fields. Hope you will recover soon. Good luck!
