How long is it until you should have an eye exam?

I went to one eye doctor and I always went every 6 months to a year. Then, I transferred doctors and then the office never reminded me to schedule an appointment and it has been one year and one month. Since my last eye exam, everything is alright with my eyes so is that why they don't follow up with another annual appointment? What do you think?
