  • How long does pink eye take to go away on its own?

I have red and itchy eyes. My friend told me that I had pink eye. I have applied some artificial tears to relieve the symptoms but the symptoms are still there. How long does pink eye take to go away on its own?

Dear friend, I know that if your pink eye was caused by viral, it will go away on its own a few days or one week later without any special treatment. You just need to apply some artificial tears to lubricate your eyeballs for the inflammation may cause dry and irritated eyes. You can also place a piece of ice on your closed eyes to calm down the inflammation. Hope you will be fine soon!

Guy, there are three kinds of pink eye. They are viral pink eye, bacteria pink eye and allergic pink eye. Only the pink eye caused by a viral or allergens can go away on its own. But if your pink eye was caused by allergens, you may suffer this kind of pink eye from time to time. So I strongly suggest you to have your eyes checked by an eye doctor. If your pink eye was caused by bacteria, you may need to treat your pink eye with some medicines. Good luck!

Usually viral conjunctivitis will take a few days or at most two weeks to go away on its own without applying any medicines. The time varies from person to person for the severity of the condition may changes from person to person and the heath condition of the person is also different. Once my uncle had pink eye, the pink eye just go away on its own a few days later. But I had pink eye last year and it take me nearly two weeks to clean my symptoms totally. And you'd better not go outside for this kind of pink eye can be highly contagious.

Dear fried, the pink eye caused by bacteria will not go away on its own unless you treat your pink eye with some medicines. And pink eye caused by bacteria is more common in children. So I suggest you to have your eyes checked by an eye doctor for professional diagnosis. Usually pink eye caused by viral often produces a watery or mucous discharge while pink eye caused by bacterial often produces a thicker, yellow-green discharge. Both of them are contagious so you should avoid touching others and sharing pillow or washcloth with others too. Hope this helped!

If the pink eye was caused by allergens, it would go away on its own few hours as long as you get away from allergens and get rid of allergens in your eyes. If the pink eye was caused by viral, it would take a few days or one week or more to clean the symptoms on its own without special treatment. If the pink eye was caused by bacteria, it won't go away unless you treat your pink eye with the medicines prescribed by your eye doctor. But I think the first thing you need to do is to have your pink eye checked by an eye doctor to see what caused your pink eye. Hope this answer can be clear enough.
