  • Does glaucoma cause night blindness?

Is it possible to suffer night blindness from glaucoma? Is it possible? Or what are the side effects on eyes from glaucoma?

  • #2
Yes, night blindness can be caused by myopia, glaucoma medications, cataracts, diabetes etc. So it is possible. Glaucoma is a disease of the major nerve of vision called the optic nerve. Normally it is caused by the pressure in the eye. So if patients ignore glaucoma, it may cause permanent damage of the optic nerve and finally lead to blindness. There are two main different types of glaucoma. And symptoms are also different. For open-angle glaucoma nearly have no symptoms. On the opposite, closed-angle may feel eye pain, headache nausea and vomiting and visual blurring.

Well, in my opinion, it is possible to have night blindness when someone suffers glaucoma. Generally speaking, glaucoma can be connected with a group of diseases. For example, it can cause damage to the optic nerve as a result of increased pressure within the eye. Also, when it occurs, color blindness, itchy eyes, red eyes can possible. And some reports have shown that glaucoma can lead to night blindness. And when you get night blindness, it will make you very difficult to see in the low light. That can be very dangerous.

It is possible that glaucoma can cause night blindness. People with glaucoma will experience an increased eye pressure, which can cause night blindness. The medications used in treating glaucoma can also cause night blindness, for some kinds of the medications constrict the pupil. Glaucoma has many side effects on eyes. Theses side effects include: sudden ocular pain, eye redness, visual blurring, eye pressure, nausea and vomiting. If left untreated or improperly treated, the patients may become blind. Since glaucoma is a great treat to eyes, one should prevent it by having eyes tested on regular basis. If one is diagnosed to have glaucoma, a timely treatment can save his/her vision.
