  • Can you exercise if you have glaucoma?

I have glaucoma. Is it OK if i do some exercise? Is it possible to make my eyes more serious? Do you have any good idea?

You could do the exercise with little strength. But the drastic exercise will be bad for your glaucoma because of the increase of the eye pressure. At the same time, you need to pay attention to the surrounding environment. If there is a lot of dust, it may be bad for your eyes. You need to take great care of your eyes. You should also use the medical care to treat your glaucoma.

It is ok to take exercise if you have glaucoma. Physical exercise of all kinds will benefit for the health and fit of your overall body. It can also free you from the possibility of getting heart attack and diabetes. The exercise will keep your blood vessels healthy thus facilitate blood vessel nourishing of the optic nerve fibers. Eye pressure can be reduced for several hours due to exercise. Taking exercise will also protect you from obesity, and this can improve your visual health. However, the type of exercise should not be too tough for you and comfort really counts. Besides, the posture of head below waist should be avoided to prevent a high eye pressure.

It depends on what sports you do. You should avoid exercises which takes a lot of physical strength and needs lowering your head or bending your waist like weight lifting, standing upside down, fencing, volleyballs and so on. What's more, other exercises like swimming and diving which affect your eye pressure should be undertaken under the instruction of doctors. Therefore, you can only have mild exercies like walking and jogging.
