  • Can lasik surgery help presbyopia?

My grandpa is very sick of his presbyopia and he intends to find a way to get rid of that. I want to know that if a lasik surgery can help with that.

Yes, LASIK can certainly help to treat presbyopia. The technique used for this is known as Laser Blended Vision and would enable patients to eliminate or dramatically reduce the need to use so many visual aids. It would be helpful for you to schedule an appointment with a laser eye surgery provider for your grandpa so that you are able to determine his suitability and options. Thereafter,he can make his final decision based on this.

Yes, lasik surgery can improve his presbyopia, but it is not recommended. With people growing older, presbyopia occurs in their 40s or 50s. During this period, the elasticity of their crystalline lens and ciliary muscle are declining. Lasik surgery can improve his vision through reshaping your cornea. It's like wearing invisible contact lenses. However, as times goes by, the prescription can change with aging. Therefore, the effect won't last long. What's worse, there is higher risk for senior people of developing complications like high eye pressure, over or under-correction, infections, dry eyes and retinal detachment.

Well, in my opinion, lasik surgery cannot be used to treat presbyopia. And generally speaking, lasik surgery means using a laser underneath a corneal flap to reshape the cornea. And it can treat refractive errors, improve vision, and reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses. But on the other hand, for people who have presbyopia, they can correct their vision with reading glasses, or certain contact lenses. Also, presbyopia surgery can be applied to treat it.

Usually presbyopia is happened among people with old age. There are two main reasons for people to get the presbyopia. The first one is that the axial is too short as little attention. Secondly, eye axis and normal refractive system is too weak. The radian of the cornea is too flat and low refractive index. Now a lot of people have the problems at the eyes. Usually the lasik surgery could help people treat the myopia. And your grandpa could treat the presbyopia through the hyperopic refractive surgery. But it may not let your grandpa achieve normal eyesight after the operation. The principle of operation is equivalent to the putting on a pair of fixed contact lenses. That is to say, how much he wore the best corrected visual acuity is the mirror of postoperative recovery vision and wearing glasses eyesight. However, i do not suggest your grandpa do the surgery which may have the side effects. He could just use the eyeglasses to help him get the correct vision.

Lasik surgery can correct vision which are nearsighted, farsighted and astigmatism. Taking lasik surgery has many benefits. Most of patients will have perfect vision after the surgery. During the surgery, patient almost can not feel pain. Despite the advantages, it has some disadvantages including glare, fluctuating vision, dry eyes. Although there is no age limit of lasik surgery, older patients suffered cataracts are not appropriate for it. In short, if you grandpa wants to take the surgery, first he need consult a doctor. Since everyone has its own condition.
