There are many possible causes of dilated pupils, also named mydriasis. 1.It is natural for people to dilate their pupils in the dark to see things. You can observe how the eye of a cat look like under shades. It works the same way with humans. 2.Children are often required to have their pupil dilated before vision test, as their conditions are still not stable enough without dilated pupils. 3.Drug use. Certain medicines can cause the pupils to dilate. 4.Dilated pupils is also a symptom of autonomic neuropathy. 5.There may be damage in the muscles that control the pupils.

Pupil is the opening in the central part of iris which is responsible for controlling light entering into eyes. So pupil dilates when the light is dim while it shrinks if the light is strong and bright. So in a dim environment, dilated pupils are very common and normal that you don't have to worry about it. People are likely to have dilated pupils if they saw something they are interested in. When people are nervous, panic, terrified, painful and happy, the pupils are dilated. It is a natural reaction of nervous system. It is normal. Don't worry. If you find the symptom persisting, you can take your child to see a doctor for sure.

Well, generally speaking, there are also many factors, which can causes dilated pupils. For example, we can say that high blood pressure can cause dilated pupils. But for your child, I think there are some other reasons which can be possible. That is muscle tensions, which is the most common ones which can be related to dilated pupils in children. So you need to pay more attention to your child, when he go outside and play. And when dilated pupils occur, the black part of the eye will be bigger than normal one. And that can be annoying and painful. To treat it, you should make sure you wash the eyes frequently and apply cleansing eye drops to get rid of any foreign particles. Also, you can try some cool teabags and cucumbers under eyes. And that can be good.
