Why the usual treatment for myopia is harmful?

Assume that a child has just begun to become nearsighted. This means that the ciliary muscle spasm, which has been useful in reducing the infantile farsightedness to zero, is now threatening to cause the eye to continue to elongate and become permanently myopic. The harmful effect of minus lenses is often easy to demonstrate. If a myopic child is given minus lenses to read with for, say, one-half hour, the distance vision after removing the glasses is often found to be appreciably worse than before. The vision can be tested before and after the experiment by using an ordinary wall chart. In other words, the eyes have adapted to the minus lenses by temporarily becoming more myopic. If this type of eye abuse is continued long enough, the distance vision will be permanently damaged. Concave lenses have been called a poison. They are worse than that. They are more like an addictive drug. With a little imagination, it is possible to see some similarity between putting concave lenses on a beginning myope and giving such a drug to the child. Both the lenses and the drug can be considered addictive insofar as their use results in an ever-increasing dependency and a need for stronger and stronger doses to get the same effect. Both can cause permanent damage to the body if their use is continued for too long. However, it is possible to overcome a dependency on drugs. By going through a withdrawal period, the drug addict can overcome the addiction and begin a new life free from symptoms. The concave lens addict is not so fortunate. The abnormal lengthening of the eye that these lenses cause is permanent. Trying to withdraw from this addiction is futile since the eye will not return to its original shape. The drug pusher is none other than your eye doctor.

The Regular glasses do not help myopia if you define "help" as "make it go away". Normal glasses only put the eye back in focus for distance objects, like re-focusing a camera for a sharper picture. That does not "cure" the eye. It is also true that wearing regular glasses makes the condition of myopia progress faster than specialized lens corrections. The regular glasses bring everything closer, making increased accommodation necessary. The increased accommodation causes further lengthening of the eye with the resulting need for even stronger glasses. If glasses were never prescribed, the myopia would only increase to the point where the usual close work could be done without the need for accommodation. There it would cease at a moderate amount. Hope this helpful.

When treating myopia, the goal is to help your eyes focus on far away objects. The most common way to achieve this is through corrective glasses and contact lenses. Eye surgery, such as LASIK. is available for adults and those with moderate to high levels of nearsightedness. Eyeglasses and contact lenses can correct myopia. However, they cannot stop the eye from growing longer or cure the irregular curve of the cornea that causes your blurry vision. Surgery can decrease or eliminate dependency on eyeglasses and contact lenses. But eye surgery is technically complex. Problems may occur when the doctor cuts the flap, which can permanently affect vision.eye surgery can cause a loss of "best" vision with or without glasses at one year after surgery. Your best vision is the highest degree of vision that you achieved while wearing your contacts or eyeglasses.

As we all know that the usual treatment for myopia is either wearing glasses or doing eye surgery. When it comes to wearing eyeglasses, it just worsen your vision instead of improving your vision sight. It is because that the eyeglasses are just act as a medical aid which just help you to see clearly instead of completely cure your vision. Moreover, if you doing eye surgery, you can not make sure that you will get normal vision after eye surgery. Or, it may cause the second-time surgery, which is harmful to your eyes. Hope this helpful.
